st. patrick's day, '07
sadly no stories this year about catching rides with 50 year-old rum guzzling crackwhores. it was just cold. a couple of hours in i was really regretting not going to savannah to bask in the warm late-winter sun. that is until jay, jess, tommy, erin, and joe showed up having plowed through an entire bottle of jameson's before 11:30. that turned things up a notch.
the parade was awesome as usual, and even the oscar mayer weiner-mobile made an appearance. probably the most disturbing development of the parade was the occurrance of punxatawney p
hil, who was mounted to the front of a pickup truck in a clear plexiglass cylinder no more than 18 inches in diameter. the look of abject terror on his face as he struggled to find a way out of his own personal gulag was disturbing. bad times.
this is the first of my 20+ years of parade going i didn't actually make it into market square (yeah, i went when i was a little kid, too. i had strange parents.). after the parade we ambled over to a bar called sammy's (corner of 5th and smithfield) to "warm up just for a bit." of course at this point i had sought my own personal warmth located in a flask that served additionally as a perfect replica of a cell phone (the cellphlask) which fraggle bought for me as a birthday gift. that more than kept me toasty. but after losing total track of time, sobriety, etc. and getting a call from luke (that, perplexed, i attempted to receive on the cellphlask) explaining that market square was totally packed, we never managed to find our way out from sammy's. thankfully the jess, erin, jay, joe, tommy contingent found their way to sammy's also, and for a while we owned that bitch.
i got a lot of phone calls from jenna and acadia (i think) from georgia. mostly they went like:
me: hello?!
them: woooooo!!!! ggjlkjdfpffpfgeweeeeeejfubiaaallllllllgggggg!
me: yeah! goowwwwfeibnczz!
good times.
at some point we ended up in the southside, where i was at a party that featured old high school friends and supposedly my uncle. i never saw him, but there were a few people passed out in beds throughout the house. then, just when i reached the point where i couldn't talk, luke's parents picked us up and drove us to another bar closer to home. they are nice people. all of this happened before midnight, whereupon we decided that enough was enough, and i had to get home to catch matlock, so we headed home. all in all, it was good stuff, but i feel like someone had to have gotten into more trouble than me. anyone? anyone?
