Renter's Insurance
I just bought, for the first time, renter's insurance. I got emailed the document covering the details, and started skimming through it, then got to the part where it talks about "Descriptions and Limitations." Some gems, quoted out of the policy:
2. Windstorm or hail: An opening in the roof or wall must be made by direct force of wind or hail before we will cover damage due to rain, snow, sleet, sand, or dust.
6. Smoke: We will not cover smoke damage caused by agricultural smudging or industrial operations.
7. Aircraft: This includes self-propelled missiles and spacecraft.
13. Falling Objects: We do not cover loss to property contained in a building unless the roof or an exterior wall of the building is first damaged by a falling object. Damage to the falling object itself is not covered.
Causes of loss not covered [My favorite section]:
We do not insure for loss caused directly or indirectly by any of the following.
1. War.
Undeclared war.
Civil war.
Insurrection.
Rebellion.
Revolution.
Warlike act by a military force or military personnel.
Destruction seizure or use for a military purpose.
Discharge of a nuclear weapon will be deemed a warlike act, even if accidental.
